Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
When it comes to gorilla safaris in Africa, Uganda never goes unmentioned! Gorilla trekking in Uganda is such a captivating primate adventure experience you shouldn’t miss to be part. There are 2 magnificent gorilla safari parks where you can visit to trek to view mountain gorillas in Uganda and they include Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. All the 2 protected areas are nestled suitably in the extreme Southwestern Uganda.
Uganda shelters approximately half of all the 1063 mountain gorillas that are left on earth today with 459 of them concentrated in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park alone. The largest number of habituated gorilla families are confined within Uganda’s 2 gorilla safari parks but only 1 is assigned to a group of 8 visitors to track with park ranger guide on lead. There is only one habituated family in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (Nyakagezi gorilla group).
In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, there are 4 major gorilla trekking areas (Buhoma region in the North, Ruhija in the East, Rushaga and Nkuringo in the South) and these feature 20 habituated gorilla groups in this park alone. These include Mubare, Rushegura, Katwe, Habinyanja, Nkuringo, Bushaho, Christmas, Mucunguzi, Busingye, Rwigi, Bweza, Bikingi, Nshongi, Kutu, Oruzongo, Mukiza, Kahungye, Kyaguriro, Bitukura and Mishaya gorilla families.
